The International Volunteer Program was launched in 2004 in Catorce, San Luis Potosi, Mexico as a way to stimulate information sharing between marginalized communities and socially conscious volunteers from around the world. Since then, the program has grown and evolved. Today the program offers volunteers opportunities to assist in dynamic development projects while experiencing a different culture.

Simply stated…We help underserved communities access information important to their well being and to encourage the sharing of information among and between communities at all levels of the social structure.

Our guiding principles…To enhance marginalized communities' participation in the larger social structure, the Auris Project and its volunteers:

Support volunteerism, civic participation and leadership development within marginalized communities;

Promote mutually respectful and honest interaction between community members and their governments, encourage government responsibility and facilitate informed inclusion into the democratic process for all community members;

Provide learning opportunities and services that encourage collaboration and dialogue among communities, community advocates, governments and the larger society.

Implement tools and strategies that use access to information as a principal tool of empowerment.

Foster international cooperation through the building of virtual communities and international volunteer programs.

Our communities…Currently, Auris Project volunteers are working in the communities of the Catorce municipality of San Luis Potosí state of Mexico and the Cebolleta Huichol community in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range of Jalisco, Mexico . The Auris Project also partners with organizations in San Antonio , Texas on a variety of information access issues. You may view our current initiatives.

Our Volunteers...At the Auris Project, our volunteers bring important skills and energy to our mission. At the same time, they learn valuable leadership skills, gain cultural and social knowledge and help deserving communities at both the local and international levels.

By joining the Auris Project, you become part of a growing international community of dynamic and socially conscious people from all walks of life.
