SUMMER 2008 (JUNE-JULY):

Because our mission is about helping communities access information and then providing the support they need to make good use of that information, our volunteers can expect to handle a wide variety of rewarding tasks. One of the most important aspects of the volunteer experience is the ability to communicate with people who have had very little opportunities to connect with people from outside the region.

Auris Project volunteers can assist with a variety of community development and information access initiatives in rural villages in the Altiplano Potosino. They are:

1. Economic Development Assistance. (Helping rural women develop a herbal remedies micro-business through information gathering and capacity building.)

2. English Programs for Children and Adults. (Providing cultural and language exchange while building awareness and international cooperation in our villages.)

3. Village Resource Research Initiative. (Gathering fascinating facts about rural villages for research that will encourage economic growth for our communities.)

4. Auris Bazaar. (Helping run a small shop that brings hard-to-find items to rural residents in the Catorce municipality.)

Flexibility and a sense of adventure is key to our volunteers' success. International Volunteers have left our summer program with new knowledge and memories that will last a lifetime.

______________

''With the Auris Project, you really feel like you’re working on a team. The volunteer is given the leeway to work independently and to be creative with their initiatives. It’s different than some organizations I’ve worked with where you feel like work is being dictated to you. I feel like I’ve been allowed to use my own skills.''

-2007 International Volunteer, Kelly Sawyer
